- Virat Kohli became fastest century scorer (in 52 balls) of India on 16 October 2013 in One day International (ODI) held at Jaipur. He was the seventh fastest century scorer in ODI in the world.
- Marathi playwright and political thinker Govind P Deshpande died on 16 October 2013 due to age-related ailments. He was 75.
- RBI,increases the Repo rate by 25 basis points from 7.5 percent to 7.75 percent on 29 october 13.
- Arunendra Kumar was on 16 October 2013 appointed as Chairman of Railway Board (Ministry of Railways) and ex-officio Principal Secretary to Government of India.
- Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers on 25 October 2013 sanctioned setting up of a Plastic Park at Siju Village, Kujanga Tehsil of Jagatsinghpur District in Odisha. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called Paradeep Plastic Park Limited would set up the Plastic Park.

- Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teen shot by the Taliban for championing girls’ education won the European Union’s (EU) Sakharov human rights prize 2013 on 10 October 2013.

- The Philips board of management appointed A. Krishnakumar as the Managing Director and CEO of Philips Electronics India Ltd on 17 October 2013.He will take over charge from December 2013.
- Eleanor Catton, 28, New Zealand author won the Man Booker prize 2013 for her second novel entitled The Luminaries, published by Granta, on 15 October 2013.
- The 14th India-Russia Annual Summit was held at Moscow on 21 October 2013. The summit was co-chaired by the Prime Minister of the India Dr. Manmohan Singh and the President of the Russia Vladimir V. Putin.
- Police Commemoration Day was observed on 21 October 2013 at the Police Memorial, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
- Justice Rajesh Kumar Agrawal (60), the acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court appointed as the regular Chief Justice of Madras High Court on 21 October 2013, by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee.
- Government of India on 25 October 2013 signed an agreement with World Bank for credit of 360 million US Dollar for the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Water Sector Restructuring Project.
- Axis Bank Ltd on 24 October 2013 launched the e-KYC (electronic know-your-customer) initiative to facilitate paperless banking to Aadhaar card holders at Mumbai.Axis Bank became the first bank to allow customers to open an account with just their Aadhaar number.
- The Uttar Pradesh Government on 25 October 2013 appointed retired Justice Tarun Chaterjee as the new chairman of the state Human Rights Commission.
- Manna Dey, the legendary singer died on 23 October 2013 in Bangalore hospital. He was 94 years old.
- Bollywood actor Aamir Khan on 11 October 2013 released Mansoor Khan’s book The Third Curve: The End of Growth as We Know It at the India International Centre in New Delhi.
- World Food Day celebrated on 16 October,theme of these year is – Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition.
