SBI PO Exam Review & Expected Cut-offs 2013

State Bank of India (SBI) conducted written examination for recruitment of Probationary Officers in SBI branches in India on 28th April 2013. 

There were four sections in the paper -

1) English language,
2) General Awareness, Computer & Marketing
3) Reasoning and
4) Data Analysis & Interpretation; followed by a descriptive section

Here is a review of the written examination which our team compiled by the reviews we received from our users . The review provide insights on how was the paper overall and the expected cut off. Also, this review will help candidates to have a look at the pattern of the exam so that they can prepare well for the upcoming  exams.

  • As said by many people who took the exam, the paper was an average paper, neither too easy nor tough though some people could not find enough time to complete the whole paper.  The paper was relatively easy as compared to SBI PO 2011 Exam.
  • General Awareness & Data Interpretation section were easy to moderate. Most of the candidates attempted these sections taking into account the time management part.
  • English Section seems to be a deciding factor as many candidates found this section difficult. The reason behind this is that the standard of questions were high as expected. Options were looking too close and at times confusing as well.
  • Reasoning section as earlier stated by SBI that the level of questions will be high for this section. The questions were manageable though if the time constraint was there. So, Reasoning section was moderate to difficult.
  • Descriptive Paper: This section was on average lines. Mostly students found it to be a cake walk section.

Expected Cut-off’s:

The expected range of cutoff marks for SBI PO 2013 exam:
(Objective + Descriptive)
For General Category: Between 120-125
For SC/ST Category: Between 100-105
For OBC Category: Between 110-115

How to Prepare SBI PO Descriptive Paper?

State bank of India (SBI) is world renowned bank and also the biggest bank in India in terms of Assets and Market Capitalization and various others factors. SBI is ranked 285th in the Fortune Global 500 rankings of the world’s biggest corporations for the year 2012.

SBI have made official announcement regarding PO recruitment in January 2013 and is conducting exams across various centers all over the country on 28th April 2013.

Earlier we have discussed about Objective questions and now we are discussing about the Descriptive exam pattern, and topics which are important. Descriptive Section needs regular practice. It comprises of mainly these sections viz :
1. Essay Writing
2. Letter Writing
3. Precise Writing
4. Paragraph Writing

Let us elaborate each section in detail.

1. Essay Writing : In this section candidates are asked to write on any topic such as topic related to current scenario of any country, or banking related topic or even general topics. Few expected questions for  the forthcoming exam are as follows :

A) FDI In Retail
B) Women Security
C) Budget 2013-14
D) Internet / Mobile Banking
E) Advantages Of Nationalization Of Banks
F) Population Explosion
G) Corruption In India
H) Economic Recession
I ) Technology In Banking
J) Reason for Fall In Indian Rupee
K) Nuclear / Thermal Power Projects In India and their Impact
L) Globalization.

2. Letter Writing: In this section the candidates have to keep in mind the Format of both formal and informal letters. In letter writing both content as well as format are equally important.

3. Precise Writing : A Precise means Short Summary, and that too in your own words. A Precise should be written in 1/3rd of the original content given. Also an appropriate heading should be given. A precise reflects the heart of a passage. You should not repeat articles, adjectives etc, rather focus on writing the main content of the paragraph in your own words.

4. Paragraph Writing : In this very section a candidate will be given a phrase or a quotation and will be asked to expand it in your own words in 100 to 150 words. Few examples are :
A) Tit for Tat
B) Failure is the stepping stone to success
C) Unity is strength

Download SBI PO Call Letters For Written Exam – 2013

State bank of India, the largest banking and financial services company in India by revenue, assets and market capitalisation with its headquarters in Mumbai, released the call letters for the examination to be held on April 28, 2013 for the post of Probationary officers.

SBI PO 2013 – Exam Pattern & Books to Refer

State Bank of India (SBI) has recently invited applications for recruitment of 1544 PO Vacancies . You can read the detailed post regarding the recruitment from here. 

The written exam for the SBI PO Recruitment 2013 will be held on 28th April 2013. Let’s discuss the details of the SBI written exam pattern and study tips for the exam, which should be helpful to students preparing for this exam.

Pattern of the SBI PO Exam 2013:

PHASE-I (Objective & Descriptive Test) 250 marks: The Written test will be objective as well as Descriptive in nature consisting of 250 marks in all.

1) Pattern of Objective Type Test (200 marks):

The Objective test consists of 200 questions in total and includes the following tests.

  • Each section carries 50 questions for 1 marks each.
  • Duration of Objective type exam is 2 hours.
  • There will be penalty of 0.25 marks for every wrong answer.
  • Candidates will have to pass in each of the Objective tests separately.The passing marks in each of the tests, to be decided by the Bank on the basis of the performance of all the competing candidates taken together in each test to a minimum required level for each category.

2) Pattern of Descriptive Test (50 Marks):

The Descriptive Test with 1 hour duration will be of “Test of English Language (comprehension, short précis, letter writing & essay)”. The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Note that Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests.

Books for reference and practice according to us are as stated below. These books can help you to prepare and practice for the SBI PO Exam 2013. Good Books to practice SBI PO Exam (in English/Hindi) are as below:

PHASE-II (Group Discussion & Personal Interview) 50 marks:

  • The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category and the candidates in the order of merit, subject to 3 times the number of vacancies in each category, will be called for Group Discussion and Interview.
  • The qualifying marks in Group Discussion & Interview will be as decided by the Bank
  • The GD round carries 20 marks & interview round carries 30 marks.
  • The candidates will have to qualify both in Phase-I and Phase-II separately.

Final Selection Process:

Marks secured by the candidates in the Written Test (out of 250 marks maximum) are converted to out of 75 and marks secured in Group Discussion & Interview (out of 50 marks maximum) are converted to out of 25. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Written Test and Group Discussion & Interview out of 100 for each category. The selection will be made from the top merit ranked candidates in each category

SBI Released Interview Schedule for Various SO Posts

State bank of India, the largest banking and financial services company in India by revenue, assets and market capitalisation with its headquarters in Mumbai, released the list of candidates shortlisted for interview for the post of Asst Gen. Manager (Economist) & Manager (Economist) {SPECIALIST OFFICERS}. The exam for the same was held on 2nd December 2012.

Important: 

No candidate is shortlisted for interview for the post of Dy Manager (Fire) as none of the candidate is fulfilling the eligibility criteria, for the post.

State Bank Of India (SBI) Clerical Phase-II Interview Results Declared

State Bank of India (SBI) is the largest banking and financial services company in India by revenue, assets and market capitalisation. It is a state-owned corporation with its headquarters in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Bank has declared final results of clerical recruitment (ASSISTANTS & STENOGRAPHERS). Exam of which was held on 27-05-12 & 03-06-12 and interviews were conducted in December 2012/January 2013.
 Bank declared the list of candidates selected for Phase-II interviews in the mid of December 2012 and now results are declared for the same.

SBI Recruitment 2013 – 1500 PO Vacancies

The SBI (State Bank of India), India’s top public sector bank invites applications from eligible Indian Citizens for appointment as Probationary Officers (POs) in State Bank of India. The Bank purposes to fill 1544 vacancies. SBI is the nation`s largest bank with over 2 lakh employees in about 12400+ branches.

Application Fees:

For SC/ST/PWD Candidates: Rs. 50/-
For General and Others: Rs. 200/-

Important Dates:

Online Registration of Application: 30.01.2013 TO 23.02.2013
Payment of Fees – ONLINE: 30.01.2013 TO 23.02.2013
Payment of Fees – OFFLINE: 01.02.2013 TO 28.02.2013
Date of Written Examination: 28.04.2013

Eligibility Criteria: (As on 01.01.2013):

(A) Essential Academic Qualifications:

Graduation in any discipline from a recognised University or any equivalent qualification recognised as
such by the Central Government.

(B) Age Limit:
Not below 21 years and not above 30 years as on 01.01.2013 i.e candidates must have been born not earlier than 02.01.1983 and not later than 01.01.1992 (both days inclusive)

Pay Scale:

The basic pay is Rs.16900 in the scale of Rs.14500-25700.For an officer posted in Mumbai, the monthly emoluments (including allowances & benefits) will be Rs.69000 (approx.)

Please Note:

  • Relaxation in the Upper Age Limit to Reserved category candidates as per Government extant rules.
  • Probation Period: 2 years

Selection Procedure:

 Phase-I: Written Examination (250 marks) consisting of Objective Tests and Descriptive Test.

(i) Objective Tests (200 marks): The Objective Tests with 2 hour duration will consists of 4 Sections with 50 marks each as follows:
(a) Test of English Language (Grammer, Vocabulary, Comprehension etc)
(b) Test of General Awareness, Marketing and Computers
(c) Test of Data Analysis and Interpretation
(d) Test of Reasoning (High Level)

The candidates are required to qualify in the Objective Tests by securing passing marks, in each of the tests, to be decided by the Bank on the basis of the performance of all the competing candidates taken together in each test to a minimum required level for each category.

(ii) Descriptive Test (50 marks): The Descriptive Test with 1 hour duration will be of “Test of English Language (comprehension, short précis, letter writing & essay)”. The candidates are required to qualify in the Descriptive Test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank.

Note: Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests.

Phase- II: GD and PI

The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category and the candidates in the order of merit. Approx 4500 students will be called for GD and PI.

The Final Selection will be on the basis of considering the scores of Phase I & II.

 How to Apply?

  •  Candidates have to pay the requisite fees via offline mode or online mode.

For OFFLINE MODE: The system will generate a cash voucher/ challan form pre-printed with the candidate’s details which will be required to be presented at any State Bank of India branch counter with the requisite fee. On payment of the requisite fee through computer generated challan form, registration of the online application will be completed.

Fee will be accepted from 2nd working day after registration and can be made within three working days at any branch of State Bank of India.

For ONLINE MODE: The payment can be made by using debit card/ credit card/ Internet Banking. On successful completion of the transaction, e-receipt and application form will be generated; which may be printed for record
